carrieclarkCARRIE CLARK & THE LONESOME LOVERS

Carrie Clark has been a fixture in Seattle

‘s music scene for the last ten years. With the addition of her band mates, Dayna Smith on bass, Greg Fulton on guitar and a rotating cast of drummers, Carrie Clark and the Lonesome Lovers perform regularly along the west coast and tour nationally on an annual basis. Their live shows have been described as captivating and engaging by fans and media alike. Carries winsome voice travels from power to tenderness in one breath while charming audiences with songs about one night stands, love lust divas and dark lullabies. They have performed in venues such as Seattles Showbox, and Tractor Tavern as well as stages in San Francisco, Austin, Albuquerque, Nashville, and Phoenix sharing the stage with bands such as Two Loons for Tea, Jared Clifton (Radio Nationals), Laura Veirs, David Garza, Halou, and Al Stewart (Year of the Cat).
Oregon grown and brought up on Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Crystal Gayle records, Carrie is self taught on piano and guitar. Her self taught nature towards songwriting complemented by Fulton and Smiths scholastic musical backgrounds has created a musical experience weaving dark melody lines and driving country rhythms.

“I am a generally happy person, but songwriting seems to bring out the dark side of my emotions. You have to have both, so in order to stay happy, the darker side of me is given to the songs I write.”  Seems So Civilized, is Carries third independent release. Her two previous CDs, Release the Butterfly and Reverie, are still receiving national and international radio play including feature interviews on NPR radio programs and highlights in local and national media publications.

ANDALIBRE

Andalibre performs traditional and modern Flamenco music and dance. In following the profound river of this art form, they follow the tradition with love and respect for the great artists of the past and now. But also new tonalities, musical ideas and inspired moments are freely explored. In joining their varied talents and gifts, the three bring together all the elements that compose a traditional Flamenco setting and more.
Guitar (guitarra), Song (cante), Handclapping (palmas), Dance (baile), Drum (cajón), Violin (violín), Footwork (taconeo), Calls (Jaleos), Castagnettes (castañuelas).
Rafael Vargas (guitar) , who has lived, studied and worked in Seattle for many years as a musician, brings his long and varied experience to his young, dynamic and strong guitar playing. A dedicated artist, he is pouring his own compositions into Andalibre, Luna Nueva, Café Cantante, and Peña Flamenca, the groups that he is performing most consistently with.

Esther Marion (dance, song, palmas, footwork, jaleos, castagnettes, dumbek)has worked with great Flamenco artists from Europe and the U.S.A.

for over 2o years. Flamenco is a profound source of life, love, wisdom, beauty and strength for her which she pours into her passionate, lyrical, and powerfully feminine dance and song.
Madeleine Sosin (violins, cajón, palmas, vocals, jaleo) was born to be a lifelong musician, deeply dedicated to the mastery of all the instruments she plays. She begged for and received a violin at age 4, infusing her childhood with Classical and Chamber music. In her group Correo Aereo with Abel Rocha, she dedicates herself to certain music styles of Mexico, Argentina, Peru, and Venezuela. All of that and her Sephardic lineage let her bring great beauty, strength and a rich depth to her playing in Andalibre. Don’t miss this very special evening!!

churchgreatrainCHURCH OF GREAT RAIN (Variety Show)

So what the heck is The Church of Great Rain? Well, it’s not exactly a bunch of Lutherans from Minnesota. But it is a group of Vashon Island  performers who aspire to be the pacific northwest’s answer to A Prairie Home Companion.

When Garrison Keillor opened A Prairie Home Companion at Janet Wallace Auditorium in Saint Paul on July 6, 1974 there were about 12 people in the audience. But those in attendance thought there were worse ways to spend a Saturday afternoon. The Church of Great Rain  hopes you feel the same about how you’ll spend your Sunday evening on Vashon. And besides, when was the last time you were able to order a drink at church? And by harnessing the surgical smart-bombing precision and global reach of the Internet, The Church of Great Rain will launch a preemptive strike on dozens of listeners from around the world. Not since Sarah Palin’s Vice Presidential debate have expectations been so low for a broadcasted performance.

The Church of Great Rain will be performing evening services at The Red Bicycle on the last Sunday of each month. The program will deliver a not-very-well-considered sermon, short stories, rumors and truth about islanders and island living, supported by original songs and a weird cast of island characters to raise everyone’s spirits for the week ahead. Count on it being loose, fun and very Vashon!
