ANDALIBRE

Andalibre performs traditional and modern Flamenco music and dance. In following the profound river of this art form, they follow the tradition with love and respect for the great artists of the past and now. But also new tonalities, musical ideas and inspired moments are freely explored. In joining their varied talents and gifts, the three bring together all the elements that compose a traditional Flamenco setting and more.
Guitar (guitarra), Song (cante), Handclapping (palmas), Dance (baile), Drum (cajón), Violin (violín), Footwork (taconeo), Calls (Jaleos), Castagnettes (castañuelas).
Rafael Vargas (guitar) , who has lived, studied and worked in Seattle for many years as a musician, brings his long and varied experience to his young, dynamic and strong guitar playing. A dedicated artist, he is pouring his own compositions into Andalibre, Luna Nueva, Café Cantante, and Peña Flamenca, the groups that he is performing most consistently with.

Esther Marion (dance, song, palmas, footwork, jaleos, castagnettes, dumbek)has worked with great Flamenco artists from Europe and the U.S.A.

for over 2o years. Flamenco is a profound source of life, love, wisdom, beauty and strength for her which she pours into her passionate, lyrical, and powerfully feminine dance and song.
Madeleine Sosin (violins, cajón, palmas, vocals, jaleo) was born to be a lifelong musician, deeply dedicated to the mastery of all the instruments she plays. She begged for and received a violin at age 4, infusing her childhood with Classical and Chamber music. All of that and her Sephardic lineage let her bring great beauty, strength and a rich depth to her playing in Andalibre. Don’t miss this very special evening!!

Vashon Island Events: Red Bicycle Presents Nancy K.Dillard Dub Lounge International and Church of the Great Rain ~ Vashon Island Real Estate

NANCY K. DILLON (Americana/Roots/Folk)

March 27 at 08:30 PM – 21+. FREE COVER!

nancy-dillonNancy K. Dillon is an emerging Americana artist from the Pacific Northwest quickly making a name for herself. “An original new talent” mining a musical vein akin to Lucinda Williams or Kasey Chambers says respected UK country music journalist, Alan Cackett (Maverick-UK). Nancy is a gifted singer, songwriter and recording artist based in Seattle, WA. She masterfully weaves the textures and rhythms of American folk and country music into mythic road stories of “small town claustrophobia” and the “surreal euphoria” of traveling America’s byways. Her songs evoke the vistas and horizons of the sprawling American West.

Since its release, Just Let Me Dream is generating a continued buzz receiving international radio airplay, song contest honors and landing on several “Best of…” lists. Hailed as “accomplished, mature and soulful”, the CD has a sparkling windswept sound captured by Grammy-winning engineer Garey Shelton (The Believers/Danny Barnes/Rachel Harrington). Nancy co-produced the album with Austin, TX-based Michael Hill (Slobberbone/12 Lb Test). The album features virtuoso performances by Hill as well as John Reischman (Tony Rice/Jaybirds), Paul Elliott (Michelle Shocked/Alison Brown) and Grammy-winner Stacy Phillips (Dobro). Brit-folk rocker, Clive Gregson (Any Trouble/Gregson & Collister) makes a stunning cameo appearance on backup vocals and a searing solo at the end of the title track. John Conquest (Third Coast Music) observes, “Hints of honky tonk, Tex-Mex and cowboy music, intertwined with bluegrass, country, gospel and traditional folk, make this a true Americana album that could easily have come out of Austin.”
Nancy sings about escaping her native red dirt Oklahoma on the opening track of Just Let Me Dream. She may have left town but she is still the girl who grew up in Oklahoma City six blocks from Route 66. “You can leave Oklahoma” she says, “but Oklahoma never leaves you. I go there as often as I can. The land and the people deeply inspire me. My hope is to infuse my songs and sound with a feeling of that red dirt, spaciousness and the simplicity and drama of the elements.” A subtle sweetness inhabits Nancy‘s voice that makes it instantly appealing. You can hear the wind in her voice. Sometimes you can taste the dust, too, and feel the hot summer sun.

Vashon’s Red Bicycle Bistro: The Pharmacy Honors Ross Krinsky

The Pharmacy plays an ALL AGES SHOW TO HONOR OUR GOOD FRIEND ROSS KRINSKY!

Saturday November 28 at 9:00 PM.

pharmacyScott Yoder and Brendhan Bowers made plenty of noisy racket in the local garages and teen centers growing up on Vashon Island. They moved across the Puget Sound to Seattle and booked their first tour as The Pharmacy (with then-member Joey Seward) in 2003 and have kept the show pretty much on the road ever since. In 2006 Joey left for more metal pursuits and classically trained pianist and fellow Vashon kid Stefan Rubicz joined on keyboards. Since then they’ve transformed from the synth-heavy overdrive of their 2005 debut album B.F.F. through the drizzly sunshine of the Overcast Summer 7″ at last landing on the off-kilter psychedelic pop of Choose Yr Own Adventure. Replete with epic instrumentation – viola, violin, cello, harpsichord and horns all make an appearance- Choose Yr Own Adventure has been years in the making, re-vamped re-recorded and re-written over time.

They have played Bumbershoot, the Capitol Hill Block Party, every club in town and every basement in the country. They have played with the Moldy Peaches and toured with Kimya Dawson (as her opening and backing band), Jeffrey Lewis and Matt & Kim. The 2008 European tour is happening right now. If they could live on tour then they would….. Let’s welcome these guys back to Vashon in a big way, the day after Thanksgiving. ALL AGES SHOW. 9-11pm. We’re making this a really affordable show by ONLY charging $4 cover!!

Tori Sparks

10/23/2008
Starts at 08:00 PM – Free

Tori Sparks calls Nashville home, but spends most of her time on the road in the U.S. and Europe. Called “a knockout” by the Village Voice, her dynamic live show is equal parts soulful singing and zany stand-up-style humor.  The fearless chanteuse makes the audience her own in any setting. Besides her big black boots, and balls-to-the-wall guitar playing, she is known for being a part of and organizing benefit concerts on behalf of the National Federation of the Blind, F.A.C.E., the March of Dimes, and the One Campaign. This woman is coming all the way up from Nashville for us, come check out her show! As a special treat for Vashon, we’re making this a free cover show!
